Key products: Aluminum refining fluxes, drossing fluxes and covering fluxes.
Market: Casthouse/Foundry.
• Products are developed by Tsinghua University teams led by Professor Li Jianguo who has been in aluminum fabrication study for over 30 years.
• Knowing that most defects of aluminum fabricated products originally come from the melting process, and refining flux play an important role, he started developing new type of fluxes around 20 years ago.
• Relying on the long-term basic research accumulation of Tsinghua University team, modern production facilities as well as complete set of analytic apparatus, a series of unique fluxes have been successfully developed and produced with proved high performance.
• The facility is in Qinghai province, a plateau area with low oxygen, low air pressure and very dry climate, which also ensures the stability of fluxes quality.
Aluminum purification materials, including refining fluxes, drossing fluxes and covering fluxes, are inorganic salts for liquid aluminum treatment before casting.
• Refining fluxes are used to remove non-metallic inclusions, reduce hydrogen contents, and remove unnecessary alkali and alkaline earth metals in aluminum melt;
• Drossing fluxes are designed to produce dry fragmented dross and sperate trapped liquid aluminum from dross;
• Covering fluxes are designed to prevent aluminum melt from oxide generation and hydrogen pick-up, as well as to promote the separation of aluminum melt from dross layer.
• Fully remelted refining flux with uniform composition
• Low melting point (430-450℃) for rapid dispersion
• Environment friendly product, fluoride free, sodium free, non-hazardous, no bad smell, almost no smoke
• Fantastic refining result (purification result) with low application rates
• Good dross/aluminum separation with much less aluminum loss (very low aluminum content in dross)
• Better end products quality and lower overall cost
• Specially designed grain size for injection
• The refining flux can be used for all aluminum alloys.
• Recommended Refining temperature: 730-760℃
• Application rate is 0.1-0.5% depending on raw materials especially the proportion and type of scrap used. Normally 0.1% of refining flux for 10% scrap. The exact application requirements also depend on the initial and targeted levels of inclusions.
• Flux shall be injected the bottom of the bath together with stirring (like M-EMS). The stirring will last 5-15 more minutes after injection. Then 15-30 minutes holding shall be followed before skimming.
• Normally, at the same total application rate of flux, 2-3 times refining treatments have much better result than only one refining treatment.
Refining (removal of inclusions) principle is the starting point of refining flux design and production. Based on years of researches and a lot of tests and experiments, we found that good refining flux must have the ability to wet oxide inclusion (catch it), cut big inclusion small pieces, and float up together with inclusion (remove it).
With low melting point, salt flux can disperse easily to catch more inclusions. Stirring during refining process give salt flux more time and more chance to catch more inclusions. Holding gives salt flux enough time to float up to the surface of liquid metal together with inclusions.
Our refining fluxes have been used and tested by many clients including billet, slab and cast-rolling coil producers. The results are all very good with much less smoke, less application rate, much better dross/aluminum separation and much better purification.
